People say that Roman Consul Cicerone build his mansion exactly here, where there is now the villa that was constructed around 1700. Marco Mario, a roman friend of his that lived in Pompei, described how beautiful and magnificent it was. Without doubt the position was and is superb! At the end of the 17th century a noble family of Vico, built on the ruins of this Roman mansion their villa as it is known to us today. At the end of the 19th century it was transformed in a hotel, among the first in the Sorrento Peninsula, when the "Grand Tour" made the Sorrento Coast known to the entire world.
